译文
我这次的建康之行，是为送朋友溯江返回归程。
他是像当年楚公子听人夸健广陵潮水，专程来听涛声。
你像汉代仙尉梅福一样，是赵家的宝玉，有出息，英风凌驾于平原君等四豪之上。
令人难忘的是停船在长芦。你乘舟到了长芦，尽目之处，烟云辽阔。
手把蒲扇，一边摇扇，一边喝金陵美酒，食长江蟹鲜，话离别之情。
当你想起我之时，就登高长歌来抒发思念之情。
注释
赵少府：即赵炎。河北人，天宝（唐玄宗年号，742～756）中任当涂县尉，后任六合县尉。少府，一作“明府”。长芦：唐时在淮南道扬州之六合县南二十五里，即今江苏南京市大厂区长芦镇。
扬都市：南北朝时期人们对六朝都城的并称。这里指的是“建康”（今南京）。
舠（dāo）：刀形小船。
仙尉：典出《汉书·梅福传》。梅福，字子真，九江寿春人。赵家玉：即指赵少府。
四豪：指春秋战国时期的四公子，即魏国的信陵君魏无忌、赵国的平原君赵胜、齐国的孟尝君田文、楚国的春申君黄歇，他们以收养宾客，招致人才著称。
维舟：大绳以系船。
持袂：握住或卷起衣袖。
把蟹螯（áo）：拿着螃蟹的大鳌。
岳：高山。谣：有章之曲称为“歌”，无章之曲称为“谣”。

送当涂赵少府赴长芦创作背景
此诗是作者在长芦送别当涂县尉赵炎时所作。据马鞍山市当涂县地方志办公室编《李白与当涂》一书认为，他们送别的时间在唐玄宗天宝十四年（755）夏秋之交，正是“山雨欲来风满楼”之时，那一年安史之乱爆发了，唐朝开始由盛极而走向衰败，社会矛盾不断出现。

从诗的题目和诗的首联可以看出，李白是从南京市内一直将赵炎送到长芦渡口的。但从地理上看两地相距还是很远的，可见李白殷殷之意、依依之情。同时也说明长芦渡口在当时是沟通长江南北和长江航道上的一个重要的渡口。
从第二联开始，李白连用三个典故，隐讳地表达了他欲起沉疴、救危世的想法，以及对赵炎的赞赏。第二联中“楚太子”、“广陵涛”，典出《七发》，李白用这个典故来说明现在的唐朝政治就像楚太子一样，身缠重病，需要像吴客这样的人来指出它的病根，唤起统治者的觉悟，才能从根本上挽救。李白曾被谗逼迫离开长安，流放夜郎，他生活上能够接触民众，政治上遭受失败挫折，精神上倍受痛苦打击，使他清楚地认识到社会的问题所在，但报国无门，壮志难酬的现实，让他非常无奈。楚太子因吴客的叙说幸亏而愈，而眼前的状况却没有谁能改变。李白在平静的引用中，寄寓了深刻的思考和希望。
第三联连用两个典故“仙尉”、“四豪”表达了对好友的称赞。“仙尉”典出《汉书·梅福传》。李白借此称赞赵炎在当涂任上的政绩。“英风凌四豪”一句是赞扬赵炎风流倜傥、风采英姿和礼贤下士的形象和气质。贾谊《过秦论》说“此四君者，皆明智而忠信，宽厚而爱人，尊贤重士。”李白说他超过了“四豪”，可见对他的评价是很高的。这里李白轻松地引用了两个典故，盛赞了友人的才情，同时也隐含了自己怀才不遇，难展宏图的愤懑。
第四联交待了送别的地点和天气情况。在秋高气爽的时节，在长江边的长芦古镇，李白将船系在岸边，看着烟高云淡的天空，浩淼荡荡的长江，面对好友，有说不尽的话语，割不断的愁思。从短短的诗句中，读者可以想象李白挽着赵炎的手，抬首翘望天水一色的远方，心中充满惆怅的送别场面。
第五联“摇扇对酒楼，持袂把蟹螯”，意犹未尽的李白拉着朋友的衣袖，欢快地来到长芦街市的酒楼，炎热的天气就像他们的感情一样火热，他们手把蒲扇，一边摇扇，一边喝金陵美酒，食长江蟹鲜，话离别之情。“摇扇”的动作不禁又让人想起三国时期的诸葛亮“羽扇纶巾”的儒雅形象，他们谈论的话题除了知己家事之外，肯定还有政治国事。“蟹螯就金液”（李白《月下独酌》）是李白最喜欢的美事，“酒仙”和朋友一起吃着“蟹螯”美味，赋诗吟唱是美好的“快事”。
诗的最后一联集中体现李白对告别友人的殷殷之情和豪放气质。他们这一分别不知什么时候才能再次见面，前途顺逆难以预料，但思念是不可避免的，如果什么时候想起了老朋友，就登上高处，向远方吟歌一首，遥寄幽思。十分深情，十分豪放，十分浪漫，“诗仙”的本色表现无遗。
从全诗整体上看，李白虽是信笔写来，但落笔还是错落有致的。他的描写由远及近，从南京写到长芦；再由近及远，从当前写到未来，一气呵成，体现了他驾御文字的非凡能力。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
