这是一首送别诗，是作者宦游四川期间所作，诗中抒写了送高参军的离情别绪，流露了对友人路远艰难的担心和别后的思念之情。景凄词切，情真而思深。
送梓州高参军还京鉴赏
一提起“初唐四杰”，人们自然会想到杜甫对“王杨卢骆”的高度评价：“尔曹身与名俱灭，不废江河万古流。”会想起千古传诵的名句：“鹅鹅鹅，曲项向天歌。”“海内存知己，天涯若比邻。”“落霞与孤鹜齐飞，秋水共长天一色。”还会想到骆宾王7岁而吟《咏鹅》，杨炯9岁被奉为神童，王勃25岁即赋《滕王阁序》等逸事。但是，对于卢照邻，知之者甚少。他的《长安古意》虽为佳作，但因其未能尽脱六朝藻绘余习，流传也并不广。其实，卢照邻同样才华过人，除擅长七言歌行外，其五言格律诗十分精致，特别是登临送别类的小诗，更是别具一格。
好友高参军北还，可喜可贺，一路上，纵然山高路险，他也会觉得“驿路开花处处新”的。诗人觉得自己南滞在此，形单影只，实在愚痴，即便有鸿鹄之志也是枉然。高参军将从自己当年南游蜀地的来路还京，真为他提心吊胆：这一路上，风尘滚滚，关山重重，那数不清的峭壁悬崖，急流险滩，不知他如何跋涉。诗人眼看好友离去，远了，远了，好友的车盖早已在视线之外，他还在离别的高坡上挂肚牵肠：什么时候该过三峡，什么时候能越秦岭，什么时候才安抵京洛，“黄鹤之飞尚不得过，猿猱欲渡愁攀援”的蜀道将如何穿越，“又闻子规啼夜月”的空山野岭又怎样入眠。恍惚间，琴声似断，昔日相与饮酒吟诗的高参军已离他而去，难以再见；秋山俱寂，夜空“杜鹃啼血猿哀鸣”的悲声格外刺耳，令人毛骨悚然。猛一惊，直面惜别时的童山青岩，不胜感慨：“志同道合的你我，千山万水将隔不断我们的情谊。《穆天子传》载西王母《白云谣》云：‘白云在天，山陵自出。道里悠远，山川间之。将子无死，尚能复来。’我期待着这一天的到来。”
卢照邻性格孤傲，卓尔不群，为时世所不容，却为亲友所钦佩。关键时刻，总有朋友使他摆脱困境。因此，诗人特别珍重这人世间难得的真情，每每分手之时，常常写诗馈赠。由于悲苦，这类诗作往往景幽情苦，词冷曲哀，凄切有余而旷达不足，但其拳拳之心，眷眷之意却表露无遗。
“士穷节乃见”，“患难见真情”，卢照邻其人其节，其情其义，便是一例。

卢照邻，初唐诗人。字升之，自号幽忧子，汉族，幽州范阳（治今河北省涿州市）人，其生卒年史无明载，卢照邻望族出身，曾为王府典签，又出任益州新都（今四川成都附近）尉，在文学上，他与王勃、杨炯、骆宾王以文词齐名，世称“王杨卢骆”，号为“初唐四杰”。有7卷本的《卢升之集》、明张燮辑注的《幽忧子集》存世。卢照邻尤工诗歌骈文，以歌行体为佳，不少佳句传颂不绝，如“得成比目何辞死，愿作鸳鸯不羡仙”等，更被后人誉为经典。
