译文
到洛阳是为了和才子袁拾遗相聚，没想到他已成为江岭的流放者。
听说那里的梅花开得早，可是怎么能比得上洛阳的春天更美好呢？
注释
洛中：指洛阳。拾遗：古代官职的名称。
才子：指袁拾遗。
江岭：江南岭外之地。岭，这里指大庾岭。唐代时期的罪人常被流放到岭外。流人：被流放的人，这里指袁拾遗。
梅花早：梅花早开。
北：一作“此”。
洛中访袁拾遗不遇鉴赏
这首诗里包含了相当复杂的情绪，既有不平，也有伤感；感情深沉，却含而不露，是一首精炼而含蓄的小诗。
前两句完全点出题目。“洛阳”指明地点，紧扣题目的“洛中”，“才子”即指袁拾遗；“江岭作流人”，暗点“不遇”，已经作了“流人”，自然无法相遇了。这两句是对偶句。孟浩然是襄阳人，到了洛阳以后，特意来拜访袁拾遗，足见二人感情之厚。称之为“才子”，暗用潘岳《西征赋》“贾谊洛阳之才子”的典故，以袁拾遗与贾谊相比，说明作者对袁拾遗景仰之深。
“江岭”指大庚岭，过此即是岭南地区，唐代罪人往往流放于此。用“江岭”与“洛阳”相对，用“才子”与“流人”相对，揭露了当时政治的黑暗、君主的昏庸。“才子”是难得的，本来应该重用，然而却作了“流人”，由“洛阳”而远放“江岭”，这是极不合理的社会现实，何况这个“流人”又是他的挚友。这两句对比强烈，突现出作者心中的不平。
“闻说梅花早，何如北地春”两句，写得洒脱飘逸，联想自然。大庚岭古时多梅，又因气候温暖，梅花早开。从上句“早”字，见出下句“北地春”中藏一“迟”字。早开的梅花，是特别引人喜爱的。可是流放岭外，比不上留居北地的故乡。此诗由“江岭”而想到早梅，从而表现了对友人的深沉怀念。而这种怀念之情，并没有付诸平直的叙述，而是借用岭外早开的梅花娓娓道出。诗人极言岭上早梅之好，而仍不如北地花开之迟，便有波澜，更见感情的深挚。
全诗四句，贯穿着两个对比。GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>用人对比，从而显示不平；用地对比，从而显示伤感。从写法上看，“闻说梅花早”是纵笔，是一扬，从而逗出洛阳之春。那江岭上的早梅，固然逗人喜爱，但洛阳春日的旖旎风光，更使人留恋，因为它是这位好友的故乡。这就达到了由纵而收、由扬而抑的目的。结尾一个诘问句，使得作者的真意更加鲜明，语气更加有力，伤感的情绪也更加浓厚。

孟浩然（689-740），男，汉族，唐代诗人。本名不详（一说名浩），字浩然，襄州襄阳（今湖北襄阳）人，世称“孟襄阳”。浩然，少好节义，喜济人患难，工于诗。年四十游京师，唐玄宗诏咏其诗，至“不才明主弃”之语，玄宗谓：“卿自不求仕，朕未尝弃卿，奈何诬我？”因放还未仕，后隐居鹿门山，著诗二百余首。孟浩然与另一位山水田园诗人王维合称为“王孟”。
