吟蛩鸣蜩引兴长，玉簪花落野塘香。
园翁莫把秋荷折，留与游鱼盖夕阳。
西塍废圃鉴赏
这是一首新颖别致的抒情小诗。肃杀悲凉的秋色，凄清哀怨的蟋蟀和鸣蝉声，不知引发了多少诗人心中的惆怅。岳飞的“昨夜寒蛩不住鸣。惊回千里梦，已三更”，柳永的“寒蝉凄切，对长亭晚”等，使多少人闻之而潸然泪下。但是，周密却反其意而用之，由此引发出许多兴致。洁白如玉的玉簪花，虽没有“霜叶红于二月花”的火红的色彩，却有郁馥的缕缕幽香，即使花落野塘，却没有“红消香断有谁怜”的喟叹，而给人“此中有真意，欲辨已忘言”的闲情逸致。因而，诗人笔锋陡转，画出了一幅《荷塘夕照图》的写意画：夕阳照在像伞一样的荷叶上，鱼儿在荷叶的保护下，自由自在地游着，其间蕴含着多少诗情画意。所以诗人忍不住要发出“得其所哉，得其所哉”的赞叹，并劝一劝园主，千万不要把秋荷的枯叶折掉，从而破坏了这一和谐宁静的幽境。虽然以“伞”喻荷并非周密首创，《楚辞》中早有“荷盖”遮雨之喻，但“遮阳伞”之喻，“算是小小翻新”，钱钟书先生言之有理。

周密 （1232-1298），字公谨，号草窗，又号四水潜夫、弁阳老人、华不注山人，南宋词人、文学家。祖籍济南，流寓吴兴（今浙江湖州）。宋德右间为义乌县（今年内属浙江）令。入元隐居不仕。自号四水潜夫。他的诗文都有成就，又能诗画音律，尤好藏弃校书，一生著述较丰。著有《齐东野语》、《武林旧事》、《癸辛杂识》、《志雅堂要杂钞》等杂著数十种。其词远祖清真，近法姜夔，风格清雅秀润，与吴文英并称“二窗”，词集名《频洲渔笛谱》、《草窗词》。
