译文
月亮已经落下，城头上栖息的乌驴仍啼呜不已。我辗转难眠，索性披衣到庭院里去。院子里结着薄霜，寒意透入我尊薄均夏衣。我在回廊里徘徊，忧愁满腹，这种心绪能告诉谁人知道呢？
注释
天仙子：词牌名，原为唐教坊曲名，此调有单调、双调，唐人用单调，宋以后始有双调，此体为单调小令，三十四字，五仄韵。
城乌：城楼上的乌鸦。
“薄霜”句：谓清晨庭院里一层薄霜，凉意袭人，夏衣已不胜其寒。生衣：夏衣。唐王建《秋日后》：“立秋日后无多愁，渐觉生衣不著身。”
天仙子·月落城乌啼未了创作背景
夏天的月夜，满心愁事的词人辗转反侧不能成眠，起床又为时尚早，最是百无聊赖。而在这样的孤独无聊中，终究是来到了院中，看到在庭院中已经结了薄薄一层的霜，凉意袭人，于是写下了这首词来怀念自己的妻子卢氏。

整首词前五句都是写景，对那位夜来无眠的愁人形象进行了生动的刻画，通过愁人的耳之所闻，心之所思，身之所感等细节的描写，勾画出他此时的孤寂与无聊意绪。
夏天的衣服想必是较为单薄的，而词人在内悲凉之中，似乎也忘记了更换衣物，就这样穿着单衣来到庭院中。此时此刻，词人唯觉得八中悄然黯淡，左右环顾，看红色的栏杆围绕四同，改言又止之下，只是叹了一句，心中这样的情怀不知有谁知道。纳兰调是含素的，而有时甚至略显晦涩。“心悄悄，红阑绕”，若是有人相伴，则不会到这样孤寂无期的境地，即使失眠，也能同游庭院中，清设闲话，或仅仅是陪伴也好神。
最后一句写情，将词中所酝酿的愁怨一下子抒发出来，令人动容。
全词通篇都使用了词人最为擅长的白描手法，空灵自然，景情俱到，篇末点旨，但景情俱到。整首词显得格外空灵自然。在篇末，搁下一个或许已不需要回答的问题，将全词孤清寂寞意境推向了顶点。全词表达了词人相思孤寂的情怀。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
