译文
这雪像梅花一样洁白，那梅花又像雪一般晶莹，无论是像，还是不像，都是一样的绝美。可这绝美的雪与梅，却勾起我的愁思。这愁思，有谁能知道呢？只有南楼上的明月是我的见证。
记得往年，也是这样时节，我却是和你一起踏雪寻梅，那明月照着我们俩，时间流逝，人亦渐老，事也成了旧事，没人再提了！我醉了又醒，醒了又醉，却是为了谁？唉，直到现在，我还在悔恨，悔恨当初那样轻易地离开了你！

踏莎行·雪似梅花鉴赏
吕本中的诗词以构思精巧见长，大多写得词浅意深，别有风味，胡仔说：“吕居仁诗清駃可爱。如‘树移午影重帘静，门闭春风十日闲’，‘往事高低半枕梦，故人南北数行书’。”（《苕溪渔隐丛话前集》卷五十三）而吕本中的艺术风格在词中则体现得尤为明显。像《采桑子（恨君不似江楼月）》、《减字木兰花（去年今夜）》、《菩萨蛮（高楼只在斜阳里）》等词中，都鲜明地表现了词人这种艺术风格。
词的上片以“似”与“不似”写梅与雪交相辉映的奇绝之景。梅花与飞雪同时的情景之下，写梅往往说到雪，以雪作背景。唐代齐己《早梅》：“前村深雪里，昨夜一枝开。”宋代陆游《梅花》绝句：“闻道梅花坼晓风，雪堆遍满四山中。”正因为梅与雪同时，加之梅花与雪花有相似之处，诗人便常常将它们联系起来。唐代张谓《早梅》诗说它们形似难辨：“一树寒梅白玉条，迥临村路傍溪桥。不知近水花先发，疑是经冬雪未销。”而宋代王安石则从另一角度表现其不似，《梅花》诗云：“墙角数枝梅，凌寒独自开。遥知不是雪，为有暗香来。”梅花和雪花形相似、色相近，而质相异，神相别，因而在本词中词人在写了“雪似梅花，梅花似雪”之后，即拔起一笔：“似和不似都奇绝”。“似”是言色，“不似”则言香。在朦胧月色之中，雪白梅洁，暗香浮动，这确实是种奇妙的境界。
月下奇景，本应是令人赏心悦目的，可是词人认为是“恼人”的。“恼人”即“撩人”，此解释在诗词中屡见不鲜。会撩拨起人的心事的原因词人没有直接回答，只是含糊地说：“恼人风味阿谁知？请君问取南楼月。”词人在此处设下了悬念，令人揣想。
江淹《恨赋》中名句：“春草碧色，春水渌波。送君南浦，伤如之何？”李白《渌水曲》：“渌水明秋日，南湖采白蘋。荷花娇欲语，愁杀荡舟人。”此诗说的是送行时看到春草如茵，绿水如染，正是此春光反而增加了诗人的惆怅。李诗说的是姑娘在湖上采蘋，秋日明丽、荷花红艳，但此景不使人欢，反叫人愁，这是因为心中本有事，见了这乐景则与她心情抵触不入，反而触景添愁。
词的下片则点明词人心事的由来：“记得去年，探梅时节。老来旧事无人说。”原来是去年梅花开放时节，曾同情人共赏梅花，南楼之月可作见证，而今与GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人离别了，风物依旧，人事已非，词到结句时才点明词人为什么别来频醉频醒，是为了“轻离别”的“恨”。整首词先设下重重迷障，层层云翳，然后驱雾排云，露出了本意这样使读者从深深的困惑中明白过来，得到了感情上的慰藉。
“言情之词，必藉景色映托，乃具深婉流美之致。”（吴衡照《莲子居词话》卷二）吕本中这首《踏莎行》见雪兴怀，睹梅生情，登楼抒感，对月寄慨，把离别恨委婉道出，有着一种朦胧美。这种朦胧美不同于明快之美，但也不是晦涩。如果一首词让人感到不知所云，百思不解，那就失却了意义。这种词没有朦胧美，而是晦涩。朦胧美如雾中之花，纱后之女，初看不清楚，细辨可见其形态，这种境界给人一种含蓄美。这首词的题旨全靠最后一句“到今犹恨轻离别”点出。艺术手法确如画龙，在云彩翻卷之中，东现一鳞，西露一爪，最后见首点睛，因而使画中之龙既显得体态矫健，又透出十分神韵。
