译文
背倚江边楼阁，面对海上新月，听城头角号声呜咽。长堤在柳的舞姿中轻轻摇动，小岛在暮烟里渐渐隐没，两行雁群纷飞似离别。
在那京口渡头，他的归帆已上路，正是花落春暮的时候。守着燃尽的银烛，看天边渐渐低垂的北斗，听村落一声鸡鸣似把晨曲奏。
注释
更漏子：词牌名。又名“付金钗”“独倚楼”“翻翠袖”“无漏子”。双调四十六字，前片两仄韵，两平韵，后片三仄韵，两平韵。
角声：号角之声。角，古乐器名。
岛烟昏：谓水中洲岛夜雾朦胧。
京口：今江苏镇江。鄂本、汤本均作“西陵”。
度：雪本作“渡”，误。
玉绳：星名，北斗第五星（玉衡）的北边两星。张衡《西京赋》：“上飞闼而仰眺，正睹瑶光与玉绳。”

更漏子·背江楼创作背景
此词有“归帆渡”之句，当时飞卿自京口北渡长江归家途中作。会昌二年（842年）春自吴中游越中，约同年秋折返吴中。此词有“京口路，归帆渡，正是芳菲欲度”等句，当是会昌三年（843年）暮春自吴中归长安途中所作。

更漏子·背江楼鉴赏
关于此词的主旨，历代学者看法有很大分歧。许多学者认为是写闺中女子的怀远深情。开头三句，女主人公倚楼望远，眼见海月初升，耳听城上角声呜咽。这里暗写一个“思”字；“角声呜咽”，烘托出愁情。接着三句，触景生情，由近而远分别写到堤柳拂动，烟岛朦胧，征雁两行，层次井然，景中寓情，尤其是“两行征雁飞”一句，寓当初分手情景，写此时悠悠离情，蕴籍含蓄，颇为人称道。
下片镜头变换，转写游子欲归，以从对方写来的方法来升华思妇的感情。换头三句，从虚处落笔，以虚写实，更见主人公此时离愁之深，相思之苦。“路”“渡”等词，显示了游子思归的心意，日夜兼程，特别是“正是芳菲欲度”句，点明时候已经是暮春，良辰美景难再。末三句亦写从夜到晓，是游子所见所闻，从银烛孤照到村落鸡啼，表明旅途的广阔与清凄，也写出了游子的孤寂与思亲情绪。最后以景结情，韵味深长。
整首词写主人公的怀远深情，沿着由夜到晓的时间流程，通过其所见、所闻、所感，从景象中透出，从旁处托出，层次分明，意境深沉。
还有一些学者认为此词属于羁旅行役词，纯为基于个人行旅生活体验的自我抒情之作，而非类型化的代言体。全篇境界开阔，格调清新，与闺情词不同。

温庭筠（约812—866）唐代诗人、词人。本名岐，字飞卿，太原祁（今山西祁县东南）人。富有天才，文思敏捷，每入试，押官韵，八叉手而成八韵，所以也有“温八叉”之称。然恃才不羁，又好讥刺权贵，多犯忌讳，取憎于时，故屡举进士不第，长被贬抑，终生不得志。官终国子助教。精通音律。工诗，与李商隐齐名，时称“温李”。其诗辞藻华丽，秾艳精致，内容多写闺情。其词艺术成就在晚唐诸词人之上，为“花间派”首要词人，对词的发展影响较大。在词史上，与韦庄齐名，并称“温韦”。存词七十余首。后人辑有《温飞卿集》及《金奁集》。
