译文
夜归天黑，需撑着竹杖而行，好在田埂上聚有磷火和萤火虫，发出微光，使人顺利通过。
到了村店，也因月昏无灯，泥路滑，十分难行，又好在村店竹窗射出读书、补衣灯的光亮，照着人继续前行。
注释
筇（qióng）：一种竹。实心，节高，宜于作拐杖。这里指手杖。
土塍（chéng）：田间的土埂。
夜归鉴赏
本诗用“夜归”统摄全篇，应把握时令是“夜”和事件是“归”，因此要找出“夜”中的意象，和“归”中意境。既然已“夜深”了，还要归家，那么思家怀乡之切自不必说；“竹窗斜漏补衣灯”，这是游子（夜行人）快至家门时所见，夜已深了，家里还亮着“补衣灯”，家中亲人对游子的关切和思念之情，扑面而来。
一开篇“夜深归客”四字，点明了诗题“夜归”。为什么要连夜赶回去呢？诗中没有交代，但是联系以下几句，读者可以想象，大约是一位出门已久的游子，思家心切，到了归途的最后一段路程，便不愿在投宿多耽搁一夜，而宁愿日夜兼程，摸黑赶路，以致深夜到家。诗中撷取的正是将到未到的情景。“倚筇行”三字勾画出归客的形象。透过归客倚杖蹒跚而行的身影，可以想见深夜行路的艰难，也可以推知游子劳累的旅况和近乡情切的心理。
第二句看来是写走过村外野地的情景：田野里的土埂子上，影影绰绰的鬼火、星星点点的流萤。通过深夜荒径冷气森森、幽光闪烁的环境，烘托出归客孤身夜行的凄凉，也反衬出归客不顾一切、急切回家的心境。途中越是阴冷，就越是令人急于早点回到温暖的家中。
第三句写终于进村了，首先看到的村店。在昏暗的月色衬托下，村店显得寂静而冷漠，但在归客的眼中，家乡的村店却给深夜的荒野带来了生机，一种家在咫尺的亲切感油然而生。转过村店，不就快到家了？“泥径滑”三字，正是写归客脚下加快步伐，因而更感觉到路滑难行。他就在这一步一滑中，匆匆转过村店，越走越近盼望已久的家门。
随着画面的延伸，一幅充满亲情的图景展现在归客眼前——“竹窗斜漏补衣灯”。这是多么的出人意外！夜那么深了四周黑黝黝的，全村都人睡了，可是唯独自家竹窗还透出灯火，隐约可见灯下补衣的身影。啊，那不是他所思念、温暖的家吗？此刻那熟悉的身影强烈叩击着归客的心扉。

周密 （1232-1298），字公谨，号草窗，又号四水潜夫、弁阳老人、华不注山人，南宋词人、文学家。祖籍济南，流寓吴兴（今浙江湖州）。宋德右间为义乌县（今年内属浙江）令。入元隐居不仕。自号四水潜夫。他的诗文都有成就，又能诗画音律，尤好藏弃校书，一生著述较丰。著有《齐东野语》、《武林旧事》、《癸辛杂识》、《志雅堂要杂钞》等杂著数十种。其词远祖清真，近法姜夔，风格清雅秀润，与吴文英并称“二窗”，词集名《频洲渔笛谱》、《草窗词》。
