译文
夕阳隐没苍茫的江水，天色已晚，停船探问当地乡俗土风。
城楼面临着古代的子爵巴国，高台乃是那湮没的蜀汉王宫。
这荒远地区仍属周朝的领域，深山里至今推崇大禹的丰功。
山岩陡峭好像青青墙壁中断，地势险峻下临清碧江水流通。
高大的古树挺立在白云边上，归来的船帆出现在浓浓雾中。
水行的旅途一去便无限遥远，旅客的愁思因此更无尽无穷。
注释
白帝城：遗址在今重庆市奉节县东，为东汉初公孙述所筑。
沧江：泛指江水。
土风：乡土歌谣或乐曲。
巴子国：古国名。
汉王宫：指永安宫，蜀汉先主刘备卒于此。
周甸：周朝甸服之国，意指周朝的领域。
禹功：指夏禹治水的功绩。
青壁：青色的山壁。
古木：一作“古树”。云际：云中。言其高远。
坐：因为。

白帝城怀古创作背景
这首诗当作于唐高宗调露元年（公元679年）陈子昂初次出蜀沿长江泛舟而下的连续行程中。

白帝城怀古鉴赏
根据诗题，此诗应为怀古诗，其实称之以“旅游诗”可能更恰当。此诗描写了这位年轻的西部人第一次进入中国中心区域（虽然仅在南方边缘）的旅程。他不断地回顾“巴”（四川），细心地寻访“周甸”（不包括四川），寻访“禹功”所覆盖的地区。他反复提到那些广泛的地理名称，仿佛这些名称本身就具有某种神奇的意义。他为这些地区的历史和古迹所倾倒。他在白帝城怀古，所缅怀的既不是历史事件，也不是盛衰过程，而是集中于与中国文化的中心区域相联系的古迹本身。
由怀古而产生的忧伤很容易转换成孤独及思乡的情绪。与较老练诗人的修辞练习不同，陈子昂这首诗更多地与情绪的激发有关，而不是与技巧有关。他的旅行诗并不像王勃、卢照邻、骆宾王的同类诗，而更接近李百药的诗。诗中对句的排列比王勃、卢照邻的诗较不板滞。他的风格离开骆宾王的风格更远。骆宾王的怀古旅行诗用了高度矫饰的语言，即使最真诚的感情也会黯然失色，从而彻底破坏诗的情调。
陈子昂描写自然景物的对偶句不似上官仪那样复杂，可是在这首诗中，这些对句也一铺到底，破坏了诗篇的流畅。此外，诗人还隐喻性地运用动词描写直观景象，表现了宫廷诗的一定影响。

陈子昂（约公元661～公元702），唐代文学家，初唐诗文革新人物之一。字伯玉，汉族，梓州射洪(今属四川)人。因曾任右拾遗，后世称为陈拾遗。光宅进士，历仕武则天朝麟台正字、右拾遗。解职归乡后受人所害，忧愤而死。其存诗共100多首，其中最有代表性的是《感遇》诗38首，《蓟丘览古赠卢居士藏用》7首和《登幽州台歌》。
