你问我我山中有什么。
那我就告诉你，这个山中只有白云，我拥有白云。
只有在山中，我才拥有它，只要看到它，我才会有好的心情。
所以我不会也不可能把它赠送给您。

怡悦：取悦；喜悦。
诏问山中何所有赋诗以答鉴赏
这是陶弘景隐居之后回答齐高帝萧道成诏书所问而写的一首诗。首句即照应题目。齐高帝之问，带有劝其出山，颇不以弃功名、隐林泉为然。而诗人则平平淡淡地回答：“岭上多白云。”话虽简淡，含意却很深。是的，山中能有什麼呢？没有华轩高马，没有钟鸣鼎食，没有荣华富贵，只有那轻轻淡淡、飘飘渺渺的白云。在迷恋利禄的人看来，“白云”实在不值什麼；但在诗人心目中却是一种超尘出世的生活境界的象徵。然而“白云”的这种价值是名利场中人不能理解的，唯有品格高洁、风神飘逸的高士才能领略“白云”奇韵真趣。所以诗人说：“只可自怡悦，不堪持赠君。”言外之意，我的志趣所在是白云青山林泉，可惜我无法让您理解个中情趣，就像山中白云悠悠，难以持赠一样。言词间颇替齐高帝感到惋惜。——诗人以这种委婉的方式表达了谢绝出仕之意。此诗写得轻淡自然，韵味隽永，历代传诵。
