疾风驱使着骤雨倾倒在高城，乌云密布，雷声殷殷隆隆。
一会儿，那兴云作雨的龙挟着雷电乌云离去，眼前出现的是池塘水溢，青草滴翠，万蛙齐鸣。

急雨：骤雨。
云：这里指乌云。
殷（yīn）：震动。
池：池塘。
五月十九日大雨创作背景
夏日突发雷阵雨之时，乌云密布，暴雨倾盆，诗人抓住了夏天雷阵雨的特点，并由自然界的风雨想到了人生的哲理，创作出了《五月十九日大雨》这首诗。

五月十九日大雨鉴赏
《五月十九日大雨》这首诗非常形象地描述了夏天所特有的雷阵雨前后的自然景象，开门见山，展现了大雨奇观。诗人站在城楼上，眼见疾风驱使着大雨，顿时大雨磅礴。然而夏天的阵雨来得快，去得疾。不一会儿雨过天晴，只留下一片蛙鸣。诗人通过自然界的风雨，感悟到了人生哲理。
前两句已把大雨写得十分畅满，极力描述了大雨的气势。黑云压城，风急雨骤，电闪雷鸣，大雨倾盆。“急”、“驱”、“洒”三字形象地表现出夏雨的骤猛。云是“压”的，雷是“殷”的，又说明黑云、雷电的迅疾。后两句描述雨过天晴的景象：雷雨过后，草色更青，池塘水涨，蛙声一片，诗人匠心独运，在震耳欲聋的雷声雨声后，仍写蛙鸣声，而两种声音，收到的是一闹一静的不同效果。雨后恬静平和的景象，与前两句磅礴威猛的雨景形成鲜明的对照。
此诗写的是雨来到和雨止的景象。诗的前半句写出雷雨交作，气势雄峻；后半句写雨过天晴，平淡恬淡。前雷声，后蛙鸣，两两对照，逸趣横生。诗人通过写大自然的景况，告诉读者大风大雨虽然猛烈，但时间不会长久，当人遇到困难时，要坚持、要勇敢顽强，与之斗争，难关是会度过的。
这首诗在造词遣句上虽模仿唐人，但在立意框架上与宋人咏景诗相近。刘基是诗人，更是政治家。政治家的胸怀往往与大自然的景况相融合，喜欢通过自然景观抒发人生的哲理，使天籁中赋有理趣。

刘基（1311年7月1日－1375年5月16日）字伯温，谥曰文成，元末明初杰出的军事谋略家、政治家、文学家和思想家，明朝开国元勋，汉族，浙江文成南田（原属青田）人，故时人称他刘青田，明洪武三年（1370）封诚意伯，人们又称他刘诚意。武宗正德九年追赠太师，谥号文成，后人又称他刘文成、文成公。他以神机妙算、运筹帷幄著称于世。刘伯温是中国古代的一位传奇人物，至今在中国大陆、港澳台乃至东南亚、日韩等地仍有广泛深厚的民间影响力。
