（1560—1600）荆州府公安人，字伯修。万历十四年会试第一。授编修，官终右庶子。时王世贞、李攀龙主文坛，复古摹拟之风极盛，宗道与弟袁宏道、袁中道力排其说。推崇白居易、苏轼，因名其斋为白苏斋。为文崇尚本色，时称公安体。有《白苏斋类稿》。
