刘邦建立西汉后，封曾经在鸿门宴上立功的樊哙为“舞阳侯”，担心大将军韩信握兵自重，削其兵权改为楚王，后降为淮阴侯。一次韩信从樊哙门前走过，出身于杀狗之家的樊哙跪迎韩信。事后韩信后悔自己竟与樊哙这样的人为伍而感到羞愧。
