春秋时期，孔子年轻时开坛讲学，听者纷纭。休息时，他与弟子们谈论各自的理想，子路说：“给我一个千乘之国，即使有内忧外患，只要三年我就能让它全民皆兵，有勇有谋。”孔子笑他使勇好斗，转而问冉求，冉求则提倡礼乐兴邦。
