开卷有益的典故

宋大祖赵匡胤建立宋王朝的时候，各地还存在着一些割据政权。统一全国的任务，直到他的弟弟赵光义当皇帝后，才完成。赵光义即位后改名赵光灵，史称宋太宗。宋太宗统一全国后，立志宏扬传统文化，下令整理各种古籍。同时，又重视各种古代文化资料的收集。在太平兴国年间(976—983年)。下令编纂《太平广记》、《太平御览》和《文苑英华》三大类书，从而为保存和发扬我国的文化遗产，作出了重要的贡献。《太平御览》中引用的古书，十之七八现在已经无法看到了。所以，又可以说它是北宋前文化知识的总汇。这部书原名《太平编览》。编成后，宋大宗对它非常重视，规定自己每天看三卷，一年后全部看完；因而改名为《太平御览》，意思是太平兴国年间皇帝亲自阅读的书。宋太宗的政事非常繁忙，经常因处理其他事情而未能按计划阅读这部书，于是就在空暇的日子补读。侍臣怕他读得时间太久，影响身体健康，太宗说：“只要翻开书卷阅读，就会有收益，所以我不觉得疲劳。”
