清朝时杭州府仁和县财主袁凤宾的儿子袁绍芬是一个饭来张口、衣来伸手的公子哥儿，他生性好赌，与赌家沈七欠下272银圆，沈七去袁家讨债未果反挨痛打，于是在袁府门口服毒自尽，围观的人群纷纷冲进去哄抢贵重物品，等袁凤宾回家时早已一哄而散了。
